Reinsurance knowledge and engagement session with Asia insurance regulators

Informative. Relevant. Practical.

These were just some of the words participants used to describe our recent Reinsurance Knowledge and Engagement Session with Asia Insurance Regulators, which was held virtually on 22 October 2025 and attracted 53 attendees from across 10 countries.

As the role of reinsurers grows in importance with rising global risks, open dialogue between regulators and reinsurers will remain crucial to understand regulators’ priorities across the region. Such initiatives are part of SRA's steps to advocate for greater cross-border industry collaboration and build a more resilient insurance ecosystem in Asia.

Presentations were led by Angus Scorgie (Insurance Europe), John Zhu (Swiss Re), and Weihao Choo (Munich Re) exploring:

1. Why Reinsurers Matter: in supporting market resilience and capital stability
2. How Reinsurers Operate Globally: through diversification, capital fungibility, and the importance of supervisory frameworks
3. What’s Next for Asia: Balancing innovation and digitalization with climate and catastrophe risk management

We extend our appreciation to our speakers and participants for making this knowledge exchange possible, and look forward to building on these conversations through future sessions!
