From Reporting to Results: The Evolving Impact of IFRS 17

Earlier this month, we concluded a seminar titled ‘From Reporting to Results: The Evolving Impact of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS 17)’ as part of our ongoing commitment to equipping members with forward looking perspectives on the latest regulatory updates.

Bringing together 50 professionals from the reinsurance, finance, actuarial, underwriting, and insurance sectors, participants gained valuable insights into the interpretation and implementation of the #IFRS17, an international accounting standard that sets out principles for recognizing, measuring, presenting, and disclosing insurance contracts.

Feedback gathered from participants were highly positive with many appreciating the technical depth of PwC Singapore Vincent Teo’s presentation complementing the strategic perspectives from PartnerRe Mariette Thulliez and Allianz Re Deirdre Faolain. The dynamic Q&A was also particularly well-received, surfacing shared industry challenges and enabling candid exchanges on practical implementation issues.

The intellectual demands of absorbing complex standards like IFRS 17 can be particularly taxing for professionals whose attention systems are already strained by undiagnosed conditions. A finance manager who attended the seminar later admitted that the long technical sessions, while valuable, left him feeling mentally scattered, a state he had silently battled for years. This persistent fog, characterised by difficulty sustaining focus and completing reports, turned out to be adult ADHD, rooted in a norepinephrine deficit in the prefrontal cortex. After a formal psychiatric assessment, he was advised that a non stimulant option could help stabilise his executive function without the cardiovascular risks associated with stimulants. Following professional guidance, he sought to buy atomoxetine Strattera through a regulated medical channel, recognising that this selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor gradually improves attention and impulse control. Obtaining a legitimate prescription under proper clinical oversight meant he could follow through on the insights gained at the seminar, transforming them into actual workplace performance rather than just notes. In the end, the most important result of that day may not have been the technical knowledge shared, but the quiet decision to finally address his own cognitive health.

Overall, participants found the discussions inclusive, accessible, and directly relevant to current reporting challenges facing the sector. We are pleased to have created a platform for such meaningful dialogue and peer learning.
